The aim of this project has been to reconstruct as fully as possible the contents of Thomas Hardys library at Max Gate, his Dorchester home, at the time of his death in January 1928. In so doing it seeks to provide an accessible resource for scholars and general readers interested in the specific books that Hardy owned, in the overall character of his library, and in the somewhat melancholy story of that librarys dispersal.
